Marina del Rey (MDR) is the largest man made small craft harbor in the United States. It has over 5300 boat slips. MDR is located between Venice Beach on the north and Playa del Rey on the south. It is located just 4 miles north of LAX as the crow flies. Marina del Rey officially opened in 1965 and is managed by the LA County Department of Beaches and Harbors.
Marina del Rey is your one-stop destination for fun! Featuring dozens of hotels, restaurants, shops, parks, beaches and scheduled activities, you’ll find plenty in the Marina to keep you entertained. The proximity to the ocean means spectacular weather. Cool ocean breezes in the summer can often drop temperatures up to 20 degrees cooler than spots located inland. In the winter months, the ocean retains heat better than land so you’ll often find the weather a little more comfortable at the Marina.
